Share the Love: Volunteer Opportunities to Create Valentines and Connect with Community
February 5 @ 6:00 pm - February 14 @ 1:30 pm
We had so much fun last year making valentines and donating our time in the community on Valentine’s Day that we’re doing it again!
This year we’ll Share the Love with Meals on Wheels, an organization that provides home-cooked meals and other support to home-bound seniors. So put on your red and pink best and join us on Friday, Feburary 14th, from 1.30pm until 5pm, as we distribute hand-knitted scarves and valentines in San Francisco! There are multiple ways and days to participate, even if you don’t live in the Bay Area. Take a look at the information below to see what works best for you. Please contact me at Orange@burningmanproject.org with the days you can Share the Love!

Scarf Delivery for Meals on Wheels
When: Friday, February 14th, from 1.30pm until 5pm.
Where: Meet at Sports Basement (1590 Bryant Street) at 1.30pm, where we’ll receive an orientation, and then drive around making deliveries until 5pm.
Volunteers Needed: 40 (including at least 10 with vehicles)
What: Burning Man Project is excited to participate in this rare opportunity to deliver gifts with Meals on Wheels, and encourages Project volunteers to take part in this wonderful community-building opportunity. The St. Anthony’s knitting club recently created and donated hundreds of hand-knit scarves to Meals on Wheels, and these scarves need to be distributed to seniors through home visits. Volunteer home visits are essential to the Meals on Wheels program since they not only help the organization to distribute useful gifts, but they also bring friendly faces and conversation to mobility-challenged seniors. Each team of 2-4 volunteers will set off in a vehicle and deliver scarves and valentines to 3-4 seniors in the course of the afternoon, spending a little time at each home to say hello and spread some holiday cheerfulness.
This is a great opportunity to participate and share the Burning Man culture with our community. Please check your schedules and plan to participate in this fulfilling experience. Even if you have plans with your valentine later in the evening, feel free bring your sweetie and participate before your own celebration. Whether you come solo or participate as a couple, this event is bound to create deeper feelings of love, appreciation, and gratitude–and that’s really what Valentine’s Day is all about!
Project Volunteer Social
Once we’re done with our deliveries, it will be nice to share a meal or drink with those who are interested in spending time afterwards. This is optional and details will follow closer to the date. It will just be a wonderful, celebratory way to bring closure to this experience and continue to get to know one another.
I hope that many of you can join us for one or more of these opportunities! Looking forward to meeting all of you over the course of the next several months…
